Day 21: Journal Prompts to Close the Year

🎄 Today's Focus: Deep Reflection and Intentional Closing of 2024

Welcome to Day 21!

As the year draws to a close, it’s the perfect opportunity to look inward, honour the journey you’ve walked, and reflect on the lessons that have shaped you. The end of the year is not only a time for gratitude but also a time for deep introspection and setting intentional goals that align with your truest self. This practice is a bit longer than others! Save it for later if you like.

✨Reflective Journal Prompts ✨

Step 1: Reflect on the Journey of the Past Year
Find a quiet space, light a candle if you’d like, and allow yourself to fully immerse in the reflections of the past year. Journaling at this point isn’t just about what happened, but about how it shaped you, challenged you, and helped you grow. Take the prompts that resonate, and feel free to leave the rest. I invite you to consider the following:

  • Where did I experience my deepest growth?
Growth isn’t always linear. Reflect on times you felt uncomfortable, unsure, or challenged—where did these moments reveal your strength or resilience? What has your heart and mind learned that you didn’t know before?

  • What am I grieving from this year, and how can I honour that?
There are often losses or transitions that occur over the course of a year. These can be physical losses, emotional endings, or shifts in relationships. Take a moment to grieve and honour those experiences. What did they teach you about yourself?

  • What did I learn about my limits and my capacity?
This year may have tested your boundaries, your self-worth, or your resilience. What did you learn about how much you can take, how much you can give, and what you need to feel balanced and whole?

Step 2: Letting Go and Preparing for the New Year
With deep reflection, it’s important to also make space for release. We don’t carry the weight of the past with us—we gently let go, clearing the way for the new year. Use these prompts to guide your release:

  • What do I need to release in order to step into the new year?
Consider any emotional baggage, fears, or attachments that no longer serve you. This could be perfectionism, guilt, old grudges, or limiting beliefs. Write about what you're ready to let go of to make space for healing and growth.

Step 3: Intentions for the New Year
Once you’ve reflected and let go, move toward envisioning the new year with clarity and intention. Rather than resolutions, consider setting deeper intentions for the soul:

  • How do I want to show up in the world in the year ahead?
Reflect on the qualities you want to embody—compassion, courage, patience, creativity, or inner peace. How can you embody these qualities each day?

  • What part of myself do I wish to nurture or reclaim in the new year?
Is there a part of yourself that you’ve neglected or lost touch with? Perhaps a creative spirit, a sense of adventure, or a deeper sense of self-compassion. What would it look like to bring that part back into your life?

  • What would make my heart feel full this year?
Instead of focusing on external achievements, think about the internal feelings you want to cultivate: inner peace, connection, joy, or purpose. What actions, no matter how small, will bring you closer to those feelings?

🎁 Today’s Takeaway: Honour the Past, Step Into the Future
As you journal today, give yourself the gift of space to reflect on both the hard and beautiful moments of the year. Honour the lessons and growth. Then, as you release what no longer serves you and set intentional goals for the year ahead, know that you are making room for the next chapter of your journey—one that is grounded in self-awareness, hope, and purpose.
